NICOLE RENAUD | DIRECTOR-AT-LARGE

Nicole Renaud has a degree in Human Rights and has applied the skills obtained from that degree towards advocating for the full inclusion of her children with disabilities in mainstream schooling. She is passionate about community-building and empowerment, and finding ways to mobilize communities for common causes. Her professional background has focused on policy analysis, program and project management, research, and editorial work in the fields of climate change, Indigenous engagement, and community economic development.

In the past, Nicole has co-chaired Inclusion Edmonton Region’s Inclusive Education Committee and has been a vocal advocate for the closure of seclusion rooms. She is currently a union steward for the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees, defending workers’ rights and upholding the Collective Agreement.

As someone who is autistic, has ADHD, and experiences intermittent disability, Nicole is both a self advocate and a strong advocate for her disabled kids’ right to a fully inclusive mainstream education. She loves volunteering and art-making - especially exploring the use of art and creativity as vehicles for community connection.
